Dental for All Roadshow Comes to Murihiku

Did you know that avoiding the dentist isn’t just painful — it’s costing New Zealand billions?

  • A routine check-up in Southland costs $80–$160, while the average dental visit was $327 in 2022.

  • 44% of adults avoid dental care because of cost.

  • The flow-on effect: more than $6 billion in social, economic, and fiscal costs nationally.

  • A report found dental access issues cost $206m in sick days, up to $5b in lost productivity, $37m in hospital inpatient dental care, and $79m in cardiovascular disease linked to poor oral health.

That’s why the Dental for All campaign is pushing for dental care to be part of the public health system. Since 2022 they’ve gathered 18,000 signatures and are now touring the country with their Dental for All Roadshow.

📍 The campaign will be in Invercargill, September 30, at Te Tomairangi Marae for a panel kōrero on the future of free, universal, and Te Tiriti-consistent oral healthcare.
